ABOUT US
A Brief History
Richard and Kelly Bromwell welcome you to Rheld Farm, a working Dairy Farm on the outskirts of Crickhowell. Formerly known as Er Held, (Welsh for The Holding) Rheld Farm dates back to the mid to late 1700s.
Richard’s Grandfather John (Jack) Bromwell was born in 1917, just outside Abergavenny, at the farm which is now the Sugar Loaf Vineyard. The family milked cows even back then, selling their milk from their horse drawn milk round in Abergavenny.
The Bromwell Family first moved to Rheld Farm in 1932, as tenants of the Duke of Beaufort’s Dan y Parc estate, whilst still travelling to Abergavenny with their milk round. The Farm played it’s part during World War II, the two fields along the A40, adjacent to the CL site, were used as an air field by the neighbouring Cwrt-yr-Gollen Army Camp.
Following the war and after marrying Mary, Jack eventually had the opportunity to buy the farm from the Estate in the early 1950s, securing the future of his family.
Richard’s parents Phillip & Gillian took over the Farm in the late 1970s with Richard joining them when he left school.
Our sons Jack & Harry are now the fifth generation of Bromwell’s to live at the Farm.
The site is a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certified Location, which has five pitches available to members only. To become a member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club please follow the link below.
